Ashdod Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile Virus as Ministry Orders Wider Prevention

Female mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus were detected near Nahal Lachish in Ashdod, according to a Friday notice from the Environmental Protection Ministry. Ashdod Municipality and the Ashdod-Yavne environmental association increased monitoring, inspections and pest control around the river during the week. Association professionals reported finding no active breeding sites in the inspected area, including Ashdod, and follow-up checks found no additional adult mosquitoes. The ministry instructed every local authority to expand prevention, monitoring, public information and mosquito-control measures, while known water sources in Ashdod remain under routine treatment and intensified oversight.
