Beersheba Court Sentences Suriya Abu Arar to Seven Years for Crash That Killed Couple

Beersheba District Court Judge Noa Haklai sentenced Suriya Abu Arar, 44, to seven years in prison for the crash that killed Eliav Abukasis, 23, and his fiancée Shahaf Danino, 28. Abu Arar was also barred from driving for 20 years and ordered to pay NIS 180,000 to each family. She was convicted of two counts of reckless homicide after driving 124 km/h on a 90 km/h road, overtaking two vehicles across a solid line and colliding head-on with the couple’s car on February 1, 2025. The court considered her admission and responsibility for eight children; prosecutors had sought up to 16 years.
