Jerusalem Court Sentences Driver to Six Years for Fatal 2019 Crash

Jerusalem District Court sentenced Tarek Kurd to six years in prison after convicting him of two counts of reckless manslaughter in the 2019 crash that killed Tzipi Rimmel, 34, and her three-week-old daughter Noam-Rachel. The court also imposed a 15-year driving ban, a suspended sentence and compensation for the family. Prosecutors had sought 15 years, arguing Kurd drove at extreme speed, failed to brake before striking vehicles stopped at a light and accepted no responsibility. Ephraim Rimmel, who was seriously injured along with his son Itai, said the family expects prosecutors to appeal.
