A senior Shin Bet commander who lived in a Gaza-border kibbutz on October 7 said her colleagues understood that they should kill her rather than let Hamas capture her. She said the order reflected the intelligence risk if a senior operative were abducted. An active member of the agency’s Tequila counterterror unit said rescue teams first prioritized families battling terrorists at their safe-room doors before reaching the commander. A former head of the Shin Bet’s Southern District compared the potential intelligence damage of her capture to the abduction of the head of an IDF Military Intelligence division.
