Hadera Court Releases Driver in Amichai Atia's Death to House Arrest

The Hadera Magistrate's Court on September 24 released Mahmoud Samhat, 21, of Kafr Manda, to house arrest until October 1 as the investigation into the death of Amichai Atia, 17, continues. Atia, a 12th-grade student at Yeshivat Hitzim in Itamar, was run over in the parking lot of a Hadera shopping complex during a mass Selichot event last week. Judge Ehud Kaplan said the investigation material showed the delivery driver did not run anyone over deliberately while fleeing people chasing him, calling it at most negligence. Defense attorney Yosef Shalabi said his client had fled a mob of dozens that tried to lynch him.
