IDF Rules Out Qalqilya Tunnel, Calling Earlier Official Statements Irresponsible

The IDF said on September 24 that an overnight weapons search in Qalqilya by IDF troops, Border Police and Israel Police, commanded by the Ephraim Brigade, found two shafts about 12 meters deep, with an M16 rifle, a hunting rifle, a handgun and ammunition nearby. "Contrary to official and irresponsible statements that emerged on the matter," examination of the shafts ruled out a tunnel route and found they were not near the security barrier, the IDF said. Four terror suspects were arrested. On September 23, Israel Police had announced a tunnel at least 25 meters deep and a sniper rifle at the site.
