Plane Crash in Congo's Kenge Kills 14, Including Heads of Military Justice

A Let L-410 carrying a military justice delegation back to Kinshasa from Kikwit crashed into a residential plot in Kenge, capital of Congo's Kwango province, on September 25, killing Lt. Gen. Joseph Mutombo Katalayi, First President of the High Military Court, and Lt. Gen. Lucien-René Likulia Bakumi, the armed forces' Auditor General. Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge said twelve delegation and crew members also died, a toll of 14, while Kwango's interim governor, Rémy Saki, put the toll at 17. The plane was operated by Tracep Congo Aviation. Civil aviation authority chairman Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba said the cause is unknown, and the army has opened an investigation.
