Israeli Navy Chief Met Boeing on P-8 Anti-Submarine Aircraft, Defense Official Says

Israeli Navy commander Vice Adm. Eyal Harel met a senior Boeing executive several weeks ago, and the two discussed a possible Israeli purchase of the P-8 Poseidon patrol aircraft. A Defense Ministry official said Israel is seriously considering buying the P-8, which is designed for anti-submarine warfare, and that Harel, by initial understanding, intends to include the requirement in the maritime strategic plan going to the General Staff at the end of this year. The Boeing 737-based aircraft serves the United States, India, Britain and six other countries; Israel would be the first Middle Eastern operator if Washington approves a sale. Israel has six submarines, with two more in planning and construction.
