Bangkok Urges Residents to Stay Home as All 50 Districts Declared Flood Disaster Zones

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt on September 26 extended the city's flood disaster declaration from three eastern districts, Nong Chok, Suan Luang and Khan Na Yao, to all 50 districts, effective from September 25, after nearly 300 mm of rain fell in about 48 hours. City officials then urged residents to stay home and avoid travel as main canals reached capacity and roads including Ramkhamhaeng and New Phetchaburi flooded. Chadchart said draining would take two to three days if the rain stops, and about 980 people were in temporary shelters. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul cut short a trip to London.
