Morocco’s King Appoints El Mansouri as First Woman Prime Minister

King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Morocco’s first woman prime minister on September 29 and tasked her with forming a new government. The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery said the king received her at the Royal Palace in Rabat. El Mansouri coordinates the collective leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, which said it won 97 seats and finished first in the September 23 legislative election. The appointment was made under Article 47 of the Constitution, which provides for choosing the head of government from the party that led the House of Representatives election.
