Rishon LeZion Targets Mosquito Breeding Sites at Shafdan

Rishon LeZion said Tuesday that municipal teams had located and treated several mosquito breeding sites within city territory after complaints from residents of western neighborhoods. A joint inspection with Israel Nature and Parks Authority inspectors on Monday afternoon also found standing water containing mosquito larvae at the Shafdan wastewater site; city professionals regard it as a likely significant source, though they have not established it as the only one. The municipality said targeted spraying at Shafdan would begin Tuesday while searches and monitoring continue. Mayor Raz Kinstlich said the site lies geographically within Rishon LeZion but outside the city's legal jurisdiction, and that legal action against the operator is under consideration.
