India’s Opposition Bloc Agrees Joint Protests and Demands Paper Ballots

India’s INDIA opposition alliance agreed on September 30 on a joint protest programme after a meeting at Constitution Club in New Delhi, according to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. He said district-level “Save Democracy” protests are planned for October 2–8, and opposition MPs will march to the Election Commission on October 6. Leaders also plan five rallies in October–November, including one in Delhi on November 1. Kharge said alliance participants supported paper ballots instead of electronic voting machines. The bloc asked the Supreme Court to expedite cases concerning Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and alleged electoral malpractice.
