Iraq Reaches Deadline for U.S.-Led Coalition Withdrawal

Iraq reached the September 30 deadline for the U.S.-led coalition's planned withdrawal, under an agreement negotiated in 2024. Iraqi military spokesperson Sabah al-Numan said the pullout from Erbil was coordinated with the commander-in-chief's office. The coalition began its campaign against Islamic State in 2014, and the transition is intended to move security ties toward bilateral cooperation. Al-Numan described a sovereignty conference scheduled for October 1. Current reporting describes the final withdrawal stage, while a small U.S. presence is expected to remain in northern Iraq.
