Likud Examines Ways to Delay Replacing Knesset Speaker After Election

Party sources say Likud leaders and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office have held consultations on ways to delay replacing Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana until a new government is formed. Opposition working groups are coordinating a bid to replace Ohana immediately after the election, seeking cooperation with Ra’am and the Joint List. The groups followed a Saturday-night meeting of Gadi Eisenkot, Avigdor Lieberman, Yair Golan, Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. Opposition-party figures said a speaker replacement could also test public reactions to a minority government if the election produces no clear result.
