Ten people were injured when a vehicle struck a crowd near Wallsend in Newcastle on Saturday morning, New South Wales Police said. A five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man were in critical condition, while eight others were stable; all were taken to John Hunter Hospital. Emergency services were called to Newcastle Link Road at the Transfield Drive roundabout about 9:30 a.m. The 18-year-old driver was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, with initial police inquiries indicating the incident was not believed to be terrorism-related. The crash diverted the Newcastle Knights’ grand-final procession and closed the road in both directions.
