Israel Police’s Lahav 433 fraud unit has completed its investigation into former Acre mayor Amichai Ben-Shlush, deputy mayor Itamar Sonino and other suspects, and transferred the file to prosecutors on Monday. The investigation concerns suspicions of bribery, election bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Police suspect that Ben-Shlush and others paid voters to support him around the February 27, 2024 mayoral election. Investigators also suspect that associates were offered benefits and promised public positions or other jobs in exchange for recruiting electoral support. Prosecutors will review the file and decide how to proceed.
