U.S. Reportedly Explored Israeli Strikes on Yemen’s Houthis

U.S. officials reportedly explored with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir whether Israel could strike Houthi targets in Yemen amid fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. The newly published account says the proposed targets were in Yemen, rather than Iran as previously reported. Zamir reportedly warned that Israeli involvement could escalate fighting with the Houthis and potentially Iran, and postpone Israel’s October 27 election indefinitely. He and CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper also reportedly discussed possible future action against Iran, without concrete plans for immediate action. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit declined to comment.
