U.S. Announces Two Arrests in North Korean IT-Worker Fraud Case

The United States announced the arrests of Michael James Bostelle of Pennsylvania and Juan Cecilio Pena Carrillo of Texas in an alleged North Korean remote IT-worker scheme. Prosecutors say the operation affected more than 70 U.S. employers and generated about $3 million. They allege workers used stolen or fabricated identities to obtain jobs, while U.S. facilitators hosted employer-issued laptops and enabled remote access. The indictment alleges wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft, with earnings transferred to North Korean-controlled accounts. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
