Ayman Safadi is Jordan's Foreign Minister and one of the war's sharpest state-level critics of Israel.
I was honored to convey His Majesty King Abdullah II's greetings to his brother, His Excellency President Ahmad al-Sharaa, President of the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, along with a message from His Majesty affirming the strategic nature of Jordanian-Syrian relations and the commitment to develop them through comprehensive bilateral cooperation and continuous coordination on regional issues. His Excellency the President conveyed his greetings to His Majesty the King and affirmed moving forward with strengthening the deep-rooted fraternal relations that unite the two brotherly countries and deepening cooperation in confronting common challenges. I held extensive talks with His Excellency my brother Asaad al-Shaibani @AsaadHShaibani that reflected our shared determination to build on the continuous development in relations and growing cooperation serving the interests of the two brotherly countries. We discussed regional conditions and efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability. We affirmed the importance of implementing the joint roadmap concerning Syria's Suwayda Governorate. Consolidating stability in southern Syria is a shared priority. Syria's security is Jordan's security, and its stability is a pillar of the region's stability. We stand unequivocally with sisterly Syria as it confidently advances on the path of rebuilding a free, safe, stable and united Syrian homeland that fulfills the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people, and we stand in solidarity with it in confronting everything that threatens its security, stability and territorial integrity. I thank my brother Asaad for his warm reception and the fraternal and profound dialogue.
Translated from ArabicWe welcome the measures announced today by the British government against unlawful Israeli actions and policies that consolidate occupation, undermine the two-state solution and perpetuate injustice. We thank the British government for standing up for what is right. We also thank Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden for announcing their intention to take similar measures and reaffirming their support for the two-state solution. We thank Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and other countries for the actions they have already taken. Settlements, settler terrorism, land confiscation, the inhumane treatment of Palestinians and the strangulation of the Palestinian economy will not bring peace and security. Nor will violations of the historic and legal status quo at Jerusalem’s Muslim and Christian holy sites. There is only one path to a just and lasting peace that guarantees security for all: Ending the unlawful occupation of Palestine and implementing the two-state solution. Systematic violations of international law and measures that undermine the prospects for peace cannot be allowed to stand. The international community must take effective action to stop the Israeli government from further undermining the two-state solution and the right of all peoples of the region to live in peace and security. The Israeli government must face real consequences for its radical policies and violation of international law. It must not be allowed to condemn the region and all its peoples to more wars and suffering.
The Israeli government is pushing the West Bank towards explosion. Its blatant violations of the historical and legal status quo at Jerusalem’s Holy Sites are illegal and dangerous provocations. They are pushing the region towards another disastrous conflcit that will reverberate beyond the occupied Palestinian Territories. The international community must act effectively and quickly against these Israeli measures before it is too late.
