When we first visited this house together with our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, shortly after he took over as Prime Minister, we learned that Mr. Erdoğan was the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye to visit the house where Atatürk was born, and we were all greatly surprised. Because for years, politics had been conducted through Atatürk, society had been divided into different camps, and identities had been questioned. Yet sometimes the truths of history speak much more powerfully than political orthodoxies. Atatürk is not the shared value of any particular political group; he is the common value of our 86 million citizens, while our Republic is the shared work of us all. To the extent that we can make our past the foundation for building our common future, rather than for division, Türkiye will be stronger. In Thessaloniki, we commemorated our Atatürk once again with mercy, gratitude, and respect.
