Because of the danger of extinction, an extension of the hunting ban on the common turtle dove and the migratory quail was signed for another year in order to protect Israel’s wildlife species, both resident and migratory, and, because of the global biodiversity crisis, we continue to do everything possible to protect populations and species at risk. The full public support we received in recent days proves that the public understands the paramount importance of protecting Israeli nature. I therefore signed the temporary order extending the hunting ban on the common turtle dove and the migratory quail for another year, with the aim of providing them with the protection required for their recovery. According to the professional opinion of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, based on up-to-date professional studies, there is a real risk to the two species, which are endangered. As part of publishing the draft for public comment, 255 public comments were received that fully supported extending the hunting ban on these species. This is a welcome and important decision, whose advancement serves a clear public and environmental interest in protecting nature.
