Ishaq Dar is a Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The 33rd Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Ambassador Amna Baloch, after a distinguished career spanning over three decades and her tenure as Foreign Secretary since 11 September 2024, will retire from government service on 17 September 2026. I commend her dedicated service and leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a consequential period in Pakistan's diplomatic history. Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service, and carries with her our warmest wishes. She will assume charge as Pakistan's Ambassador to Türkiye, after retirement. I am confident she will continue to serve Pakistan with distinction in this new role. I am delighted to also announce that Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who is currently Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will be the next Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. I am confident that, under Ambassador Asim's leadership, the Foreign Office will continue to advance Pakistan's interests with clarity, professionalism and purpose, building on the important work undertaken by Ambassador Amna Baloch and all her predecessors. I am further pleased to share that the Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif @CMShehbaz has kindly approved the aforesaid assignments.

Deeply saddened by the tragic ferry accident in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and with the missing persons and their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the people of Türkiye during this difficult hour and pray for the success of the ongoing search and rescue operations.

Wish him all the success in fostering Islamic unity, peace and collective action in pursuit of our shared aspirations. Look forward to working closely with him in cultivating strengthened partnerships and constructive cooperation among the Ummah. May his tenure be a harbinger of renewed energy and vigor in making the OIC a platform for collaborative dialogue and collective action.
Pakistan welcomes the decision by the United States to lift all sanctions against the Syrian Arab Republic. This positive decision will not only help the Syrian economy towards recovery and growth but also contribute to regional peace and stability. Pakistan reiterates its steadfast support for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and stands ready to further expand its bilateral cooperation with the brotherly country for lasting peace and prosperity.
The six Pakistani sailors injured in the recent Houthi attack on a Tanzanian-flagged commercial vessel have safely returned to Pakistan, while the mortal remains of the two Pakistani sailors who tragically lost their lives have also been repatriated. All relevant stakeholders have been directed to ensure their safe, dignified and expeditious repatriation. I commend the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah and our Embassy in Riyadh for their prompt and dedicated efforts in facilitating the return of the injured and repatriation of the bodies from Yemen and onward travel to Pakistan, in the absence of a Pakistani diplomatic mission in Yemen. I also appreciate the efforts of all relevant stakeholders, including the FIA, in facilitating their smooth arrival and onward arrangements in Pakistan. I deeply appreciate the cooperation extended by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the medical assistance and arrangements provided in Jeddah. Pakistan condemns the attack in the strongest terms and reiterates that the safety and security of seafarers must be ensured at all times. We remain committed to extending all possible assistance to the injured sailors and the bereaved families.
