Oh, so now the country that helped to create you is now treated as your enemy? How poetic. The UK government officially concluded that Israel’s continued occupation of Palestinian territory is unlawful. It also announced plans to ban imports from illegal Israeli settlements, prohibit the promotion of property in those settlements, expand sanctions against individuals and companies that facilitate or profit from settlement activity, and sanction additional extremist settlers accused of supporting or inciting violence against Palestinians. Britain also said it will refuse licences for exports that materially contribute to the occupation. This is not merely a statement of concern. It is a recognition that occupation, settlement expansion and violence against Palestinians must have consequences. For decades, Palestinians have been asking the international community for something very simple: apply international law equally. Today’s decision does not undo the suffering, restore stolen land, or bring back the lives that have been lost. But accountability has to begin somewhere. And when governments finally move from words to action, it matters. Palestinians do not need exceptions to international law. We need international law to apply to us too. May this be one step toward justice, accountability, and a free Palestine. 🇵🇸
With the passing of His Highness the Father Emir, I remember with deep gratitude the lasting impact he left on Gaza. Hospitals, roads, housing projects, and vital infrastructure built with Qatar’s support have touched the lives of countless families and will remain a lasting legacy of compassion and solidarity. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy of generosity continue to inspire future generations.
