Draft-Arrest Freeze Bill Tabled for Final Knesset Votes

Israel’s Knesset formally tabled the temporary draft-arrest freeze bill Tuesday for its second and third readings, moving the measure to its final plenary stage. The proposal would halt arrest, investigation and enforcement proceedings against eligible full-time Torah learners designated for military service through November 30, with an election-period extension through the first three months of the next Knesset term. Knesset legal adviser Sagit Afik asked Haredi lawmakers to make formal disclosures before the vote. The bill is advancing despite objections from Knesset legal advisers and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
