Nine-Justice High Court Panel Hears Haredi Arrest-Freeze Petitions

Israel's High Court of Justice convened an expanded nine-justice panel on Tuesday to hear five petitions challenging the law that pauses arrest, investigation and enforcement measures against eligible yeshiva students who did not report for military service. Deputy Court President Noam Sohlberg led the hearing. The court had temporarily blocked the law after its July 14 passage, while the attorney general and Knesset legal adviser urged judicial intervention. The hearing ended after about 90 minutes, and Sohlberg said the court would try to issue its ruling soon.
