High Court Voids Election Panel Approval of Real-Time Voter Tracking

Israel’s High Court unanimously voided the Central Elections Committee plenary’s September 6 approval for party representatives at polling stations to transmit named, real-time data showing who had voted. Justice Yael Wilner, joined by Justices Alex Stein and Khaled Kabub, held that no clear law authorizes such reporting and that it unlawfully infringes voter privacy under section 2(9) of the Protection of Privacy Law. The ruling restored committee chair Justice Noam Sohlberg’s earlier position. Parties may still receive equal, general turnout rates for each polling station, but not voter identities, unless the Knesset enacts explicit authorization.
