Attorney General Asks High Court to Void Haredi Draft-Arrest Freeze

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara asked the High Court to strike down Amendment 28 to the Defense Service Law, which freezes arrest and enforcement proceedings for qualifying yeshiva students. In the state's response, she argued that the measure creates unequal group immunity, conflicts with the military's position and contains serious defects in the legislative process. The filing says the IDF urgently needs 12,000 additional compulsory-service soldiers amid multi-front fighting. A nine-justice panel is scheduled to hear five consolidated petitions against the law on July 28.
