High Court Delays Law Freezing Arrests of Haredi Yeshiva Students

Israel's High Court issued an interim order Wednesday delaying the law that would freeze arrests, investigations and enforcement against qualifying Haredi yeshiva and kollel students through November 30. Justice Ofer Grosskopf ordered the government to explain why the Security Service Law amendment should not be canceled, citing the court's longstanding conscription rulings and the measure's selective enforcement pause. The law had passed the Knesset 58-54 less than a day earlier. An expanded panel will hear the petitions as soon as possible, and the law will remain suspended until a further decision.
