The Democrats said more than 10,000 supporters filled Rabin Square in Tel Aviv on Saturday night as the party opened its campaign for Israel's October 27 election. The party had announced the rally for 7 p.m., and its official account posted the attendance estimate at 7:54 p.m. Party chairman Yair Golan told the rally that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz were deliberately turning Judea and Samaria into a powder keg before the election. He said a Democrats-led government would stop unauthorized trips into Areas A and B.
