Peru Severs Diplomatic Relations With Iran Over Hormuz and Nuclear Inspections

Peru severed diplomatic relations with Iran in Foreign Ministry Official Communiqué 014-26. The ministry cited restrictions and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz since March 2026, saying they threaten freedom of navigation, energy prices and supply-chain stability, and accused Tehran of obstructing IAEA inspections intended to prevent nuclear-weapons production. It also cited repression of peaceful protests, restrictions on press freedom, discrimination against women and girls, persecution of political opponents and incitement to regional violence. Peru said consular relations and treaty obligations remain in force and that it notified Iran through the Iranian Embassy in Ecuador.
