Nearly two decades of research underpin Israel's National Tuna Project.
Fertilized eggs arrived from Malta in June. Researchers at the National Center for Mariculture in Eilat are now raising juvenile Atlantic bluefin tuna under controlled conditions.
The next ambition is a complete captive-breeding cycle: producing future eggs and juveniles without repeated capture from wild stocks. That remains a research goal.
