Israel Launches NIS 30 Million National Bluefin Tuna Project

Israel has launched its National Tuna Project at the National Center for Mariculture in Eilat, where researchers are raising dozens of juvenile Atlantic bluefin tuna under controlled conditions. The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry is investing about NIS 30 million, with Granot Group adding further investment and the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research, KKL-JNF and Seanovation participating. Fertilized eggs arrived from Malta in June after nearly two decades of research. The project aims to establish closed-cycle captive breeding that can produce future eggs and juveniles without repeated capture from wild stocks.
