Court Rejects Tel Aviv Synagogue Eviction Suit

The Bat Yam Magistrate's Court rejected Tel Aviv-Yafo's eviction suit against the Gvurot Israel synagogue, a long-running Chabad synagogue in the city's Trumpeldor area. Judge Igal Nimrodi found that the municipality used an eviction claim as improper legal pressure to push the synagogue into signing a new allocation agreement, while the ruling left the allocation contract's validity for another forum. The decision said the synagogue was not a trespasser and had held the site lawfully for years. The court also wrote that eviction would in practice mean closing the synagogue, a step that would affect lawful Jewish worship and local religious life.
