Ben Gvir Backs Judea-Samaria Enforcement Transfer, Demands Detention Powers

Defense Minister Israel Katz directed the IDF to submit within two weeks a plan moving civilian law enforcement in Judea and Samaria from the military to the Israel Police. He set the direction in a security discussion with Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, saying it would free the IDF to focus on counterterrorism and defending communities. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir accepted the call, calling it a significant step toward sovereignty. He conditioned it on transferring the Judea and Samaria Border Police to the police under the coalition agreement, and on moving administrative detention and restriction powers to his ministry.
