Yehuda Katz Buried on Mount of Olives 44 Years After Sultan Yacoub

Staff Sgt. Yehuda Yekutiel Katz was buried Friday on Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives, 44 years after he fell in the June 11, 1982 Battle of Sultan Yacoub. The funeral procession began at Kerem B’Yavneh, where Katz studied, before military honors and burial in the cemetery’s civilian section. His brother Avi said the family regarded Katz as having died this week, not 44 years ago, and recalled their parents’ nightly prayers at the Western Wall for his return. Col. Gal Levy described Katz as a Torah scholar and armored fighter who joined faith with national service. All six soldiers missing from the battle are now accounted for.
