Bnei Brak Employs 219 Workers Past Retirement Age Amid NIS 130 Million Deficit

Bnei Brak told a joint freedom-of-information request that it employs 219 municipal workers past the mandatory retirement age of 67, at an annual cost of NIS 38.6 million. The figures include 22 employees over 70, eight over 80 and three over 90, with the oldest aged 94. The disclosure comes as the city carries an ongoing deficit reported at about NIS 130 million; one 69-year-old employee costs roughly NIS 76,000 a month. The municipality said employment may continue by agreement through age 72 and that it will review each worker older than 72 individually.
