Morocco’s PAM Tops Provisional Election Results With 97 of 395 Seats

Morocco's Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit announced provisional results of the September 23 legislative elections early on September 24, with the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) placing first nationally with 97 of the House of Representatives' 395 seats. The National Rally of Independents (RNI) came second with 66 seats, followed by the Istiqlal Party with 65 and the Justice and Development Party (PJD) with 54. The Popular Movement won 29 seats, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces 26 and the Party of Progress and Socialism 19, leaving no party with an outright majority. The Interior Ministry put national turnout at 38.02 percent when polls closed at 7 p.m. on September 23.
