The IDF on September 24 published its operational probe into the October 7, 2023 battle at the Paga post, known as "Magen Be'eri," concluding that the army failed in its defense mission. Led by Col. Ori Ron, it found the army did not prevent the post's capture or the infiltration of terrorists into Kibbutz Be'eri, reflecting a systemic failure in preparedness for a broad surprise attack. Between 60 and 80 terrorists entered the post, held by a company from Golani's 13th Battalion; 18 soldiers were killed and 22 wounded. It found the troops lacked proper equipment and fighting positions, and that Air Force strikes were not effective enough due to coordination gaps with ground forces.
