Israel’s Supreme Court on Thursday permitted publication of the name of Lieutenant Colonel Aryeh Amidror, the Gaza Division’s intelligence officer during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack. The decision followed a request for publication permission amid proceedings concerning the termination of his permanent military service. Court President Isaac Amit cited the absence of a security impediment, existing social-media publications and the public interest in identifying the officer because of his role during the attack and the respondents’ allegations of professional failure. Amidror is the son of retired Major General Yaakov Amidror, a former head of Israel’s National Security Council.
