Sufian Abu Zaida Denies Trying to Influence Israeli Election

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of the empty Knesset exterior behind its metal perimeter fence, with foreground shrubs and stonework, two lamp posts and overhanging leafy branches. Archival July 2018 Israeli electoral institutional context only; does not depict Sufian Abu Zaida, Yahya Sinwar, the interview, election day or the alleged warning.

Former Palestinian Authority minister Sufian Abu Zaida denied trying to influence Israel's election in a newly published interview. He said he had not chosen when Israeli reporting about a message from Yahya Sinwar appeared, and described his role as a mediator relaying that message to Israelis. Abu Zaida said he was not responsible for the timing or manner of publication and had no intention of interfering in the election. The controversy concerned an alleged warning conveyed before Hamas's October 7 attack; Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office denied the allegation that the UAE president had delivered such a warning.
