Gallant Confirms Sinwar Message Reached Shin Bet, Says He Knew of No Egypt or UAE Warnings

Former defense minister Yoav Gallant confirmed Sunday that before October 7, a message from Hamas passed through the Shin Bet saying Yahya Sinwar would "shake the prisons." In a radio interview, he said the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence assessed at the time that it was connected to the kidnapping of Elizabeth Tsurkov. On reported warnings from the United Arab Emirates, Gallant said he was hearing about them in the media for the first time, adding that a warning a prime minister receives from a state leader is a security asset of the defense establishment, not a political one. He said a reported pre-war visit by Egypt's intelligence chief did not happen with his knowledge.
