Knesset Legal Adviser Urges Prompt Repeat Vote for State Comptroller

Knesset legal adviser Sagit Afik urged the High Court to have the repeat state-comptroller ballot held promptly, preferably during the current Knesset’s term. In a response submitted Monday morning, she said the approaching election, parliamentary recess and membership changes create practical difficulties but do not remove the duty to comply with the judgment. Five lawmakers have been replaced since the original ballot. She said reasonable advance notice is sufficient to reconvene the second round. The High Court’s July 2 judgment annulled the June 3 runoff between Michael Rabillo and retired Supreme Court justice Yosef Elron after ballot secrecy was compromised.
