Sánchez Accuses Netanyahu of Gaza 'Genocide' in U.N. Speech, Cites Spain's Arms Embargo

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez told the UN General Assembly's general debate in New York on September 23 that Spain had imposed an arms embargo on Israel and unequivocally condemned what he called the genocide Netanyahu continues to perpetrate in Gaza. He listed the embargo alongside sanctions on what he called Russian aggressors and Spain's refusal to raise military spending to 5%. Spain enacted the embargo by decree-law on September 23, 2025. Israel's Foreign Ministry has rejected Spain's line; in September 2025, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said Spain's government was leading a hostile anti-Israeli line "with wild rhetoric dripping with hatred."
