Trump Says Iran Must Make Deal or Face Annihilation at UN

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Donald Trump addressing the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in September 2017, adapted from a public-domain official White House photograph; archival speaking-at-the-UN context, not a depiction of his reported September 2026 remarks about Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that Iran must reach an agreement with Washington or face what he called rapid annihilation of the Islamic Republic. He said Iran would never obtain a nuclear weapon and predicted an agreement after the U.S. midterm elections. Trump invoked the October 7 attack, attributing the terrorists' funding to Iran and citing 1,200 Israelis killed. He also said U.S. naval escorts had moved more than one billion barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
