Kabbalist Rabbi David Batzri Laid to Rest in Jerusalem Hours Before Sukkot

Crowds accompanied Kabbalist Rabbi David Shalom Batzri, head of Jerusalem's HaShalom yeshiva, to burial in the Sanhedria cemetery on Friday afternoon, hours before Shabbat and the start of Sukkot. The funeral procession set out at 2 p.m. from the yeshiva on Tachkemoni Street. Sephardic Chief Rabbi David Yosef gave a brief eulogy because of the approaching holiday, saying, "A prince and a great man has fallen today in Israel," and recalled that his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, had sent him to study Kabbalah with Rabbi Batzri. Kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Ades and Rabbi Reuven Elbaz also eulogized him, and Rabbi Yosef said a fuller eulogy would follow after the holiday.
