Storm Leaves 9,444 Cut Off and 772 Homes Damaged in Southern Chile

Chile's disaster response service, Senapred, said on September 25 that a frontal system battering the south had left 9,444 people cut off, 9,400 of them in La Araucanía. Its morning report counted 143 homes with major damage and 629 with minor damage, with 1,782 more still being assessed; 405 people had suffered serious damage to their homes or belongings and 31 were in shelters. Some 5,441 people were without electricity, mostly in La Araucanía, O'Higgins and Maule. Red alerts remained in force for Biobío and the provinces of Cautín and Valdivia. In Cautín, the overflowing Trancura River cut Route CH-199 near Curarrehue.
