Saar Pledges Entry for EU's €43 Million Gaza Water and Waste Projects, Diplomats Say

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar promised European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica that the material needed for €43 million in EU-funded water and waste projects would be allowed into Gaza, according to diplomatic sources. They said it would be the first time early recovery projects are implemented in Gaza. Šuica signed the projects in New York on Wednesday under the EU's Team Gaza initiative: €37 million through UNICEF for drinking water and reduced wastewater exposure for about 1 million people, and €6 million through UNDP for waste collection and a recycling pilot. Israel restricts dual-use items such as pumps, which it believes armed groups such as Hamas could use.
