Iraq Says U.S. Will Keep Sending Dollar Cash Shipments, With New Batch Due Within Days

Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi said on Saturday that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's visit to the United States produced an understanding to continue sending shipments of cash dollars to Iraq, with a new shipment due in the coming days. He said the shipments would help meet legitimate foreign-currency needs and cited progress in monitoring dollar distribution, curbing misuse of foreign currency and expanding electronic payments. The dollars come from Iraqi oil revenue held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Washington suspended a cash shipment of about $500 million in April and resumed some shipments in July.
