Chile's Interior Undersecretary Máximo Pavez defended the proposed removal of funding for the Becas TIC school-computer grants, commonly called Yo elijo mi PC, on Friday. He said evaluations found limited learning effects and implementation problems, and argued that resources should support programs better meeting educational objectives. The program provides laptops and internet connectivity to seventh-grade public-school pupils and eligible students at subsidized private schools. It supplied computers to more than 96,000 pupils in 2026. Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz also confirmed the proposed funding removal, which Congress must still consider as part of the 2027 budget.
