Retired Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon, the former head of the IDF’s hostage-and-missing-persons headquarters, criticized the government during a Washington Institute online discussion on Friday. He described Israeli society as strong and said the country needed different leadership to make necessary changes and guide it with a realistic approach rather than slogans such as “total victory.” Alon also said the sight of crowds demonstrating every week gave him strength to continue his work. The discussion examined the third anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attacks and the conflicts that followed.
